NATO Watch launches independent information website

Journalists and researchers writing about NATO need to be able to quickly find accurate and reliable information at their fingertips. Parliamentarians and members of the public need to keep up to date with developments in an Alliance that impacts on over 890 million citizens within the 28 Member States – a number that increases to 20 per cent of the global population when Partner and Contact countries are added. With this in mind the NATO Watch website www.natowatch.org has been established.

Please visit the website for clear and concise information about NATO’s role in Afghanistan, the ongoing Strategic Concept review, as well as information about the benefits and pitfalls of missile defences and NATO ‘nuclear sharing’ arrangements. Every item that is added to the site will be categorised into at least one of the 17 policy areas that NATO Watch follows.

“We invite all NATO stakeholders to check it out and we would be delighted to hear their views about whether it assists them,” said Ian Davis, director of NATO Watch. “We can also put you in touch with national experts—see the Associates section—in NATO Member States, Partner and Contact countries“, he said. What you won't get from us is 'spin', or a PR job on behalf of NATO, a government department or defence lobbying body. We are independent of all of these”, he added.

NATO Watch is an independent, not-for-profit ‘virtual’ think-tank which examines the role of NATO in public life and advocates for more openness, transparency and accountability within the Alliance. See our detailed Frequently Asked Questions and our Vision and Mission.

NATO Watch was founded by Dr Ian Davis in 2009 and was launched at an inaugural Shadow NATO Summit in Brussels in the Spring that year. NATO Watch aims to engage in original and cooperative research and analysis on key policy questions; provide a syndicated international news briefing service; distribute a monthly Observatory e-journal of media clips on NATO policy-making and operational activities; contribute distinctive opinion to print, broadcast and web media; sponsor conferences and events, including an annual Shadow NATO Summit; build a team inputting into the blogosphere; and provide consultancy and workshops combining practical and theoretical knowledge.

NATO Watch is a company limited by guarantee and works on a not-for-profits basis. It is structured on a co-operative basis through a range of voluntary associates and partners

If you are looking for free and independent NATO-based news content that automatically updates and keeps visitors informed, then look no further than www.natowatch.org

The development of the NATO Watch website has been made possible by generous contributions from the Polden-Puckham Charitable Foundation and The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust
