On Thursday (5 June 2025), NATO Defence Ministers endorsed the new NATO Science and Technology (S&T) Strategy. In support of NATO’s 2022 Strategic Concept, the Strategy positions S&T as a central pillar for preserving NATO’s military and technological edge.

Representatives from NATO’s Defence and Security Cooperation Directorate met with Armenia’s Deputy Chief of Defence, Major General Arthur Yeroyan, and the leadership of the Armenian Armed Forces’ education institutions in Yerevan, on 9 and 10 June 2025. Following a request from Armenia’s Ministry of Defence, a team of experts of NATO’s Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP) conducted an assessment of the Armenian military education system, earlier this year. During the visit in June the DEEP team presented the assessment’s results and recommendations to the Armenian Deputy Chief of Defence.

On Monday 9 June [2025], NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte travelled to the United Kingdom for a bilateral meeting with the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, ahead of the NATO Summit in The Hague later this month. During his trip, Mr Rutte also joined British Minister of Defence, John Healey, on a tour of the historic steel production site at Sheffield Forgemasters and delivered a keynote speech at Chatham House.

On Monday 9 June [2025] NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte gave a keynote speech at Chatham House in London, United Kingdom. “Building A Better NATO” outlines Mr Rutte’s priorities for the Alliance at the NATO Summit in The Hague (24-25 June) in light of growing security challenges. It also provides factual context for his expectation that Allies will agree to invest 5% of their GDP in defence.

The NATO STO has announced the winners of the Women & Girls in Science 2025 (WGS25) Challenge, an initiative aimed at promoting scientific excellence across the Alliance. The WGS25 Finale, held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels on 6 June, brought together 12 finalists from 11 NATO Nations to present research proposals that address key challenges in defence and security.

Representatives from NATO’s Defence and Security Cooperation Directorate met with the leadership and personnel of Azerbaijan’s National Defence University and its affiliated military education institutions in Baku, from 29 to 30 May. They took stock of ongoing reform efforts within the framework of NATO’s Defence Education Enhancement Programme.

On June 5th and 6th, the NATO Military Committee conducted an official visit to Luxembourg at the invitation of the Chief of Defence, General Steve Thull. During the visit, the Committee toured the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) and Société Européenne des Satellites (SES). The Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, also met with the Minister of Defence of Luxembourg, Yuriko Backes.

From 2 to 4 June 2025, the NATO Partnership and Cooperative Security Committee (PCSC) travelled to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, for high-level engagements and visits to Jordanian facilities supported by NATO’s Defence Capacity Building (DCB) programme.

Meeting in Brussels on Thursday 5 June [2025], NATO Defence Ministers agreed an ambitious new set of capability targets to build a stronger, fairer, more lethal Alliance, and ensure warfighting readiness for years to come.

The North Atlantic Council has approved the nomination of Lieutenant General Alexus G Grynkewich, United States Air Force, to the post of Supreme Allied Commander Europe.

On Thursday (5 June 2025), NATO Allies further strengthened their ability to train aircrews and use cross-border airspace for exercises.

On Monday, 9 June 2025, the NATO Secretary General, Mr Mark Rutte, will travel to the United Kingdom.

Washington D.C., 4–6 June 2025 – The NATO Committee of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services (COMEDS) convened its 63rd Plenary Meeting – hosted by the United States and held at the Henry Jackson Foundation – the biannual meeting brought together Surgeon Generals and senior medical leaders from Allied and Partner nations. The meeting took place during a time of increased security challenges, where the role of military medicine has become increasingly central to deterrence and defence.

Allied Defence Ministers will gather in Brussels on Thursday 5 June 2025 to finalise preparations for the Summit in The Hague.

On Wednesday, 4 June 2025, the NATO Secretary General, Mr Mark Rutte, will travel to Paris, France.

Lieutenant General Andrew M. Rohling, Deputy Chair of the NATO Military Committee, participated in the 2025 IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, highlighting NATO’s commitment to building stronger dialogue and cooperation with partners in the Indo-Pacific. His presence at the conference reflected the Alliance’s growing attention to global dynamics that influence Euro-Atlantic security.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte participated in the B9 and Nordic Summit in Vilnius on Monday (2 June 2025), hosted by President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, at which Allied leaders were joined by President Zelenskyy of Ukraine. Discussions focused on preparing the NATO Summit in The Hague and strengthening support for Ukraine.

On Wednesday, 4 June 2025, the NATO Secretary General, Mr Mark Rutte, will brief the press ahead of the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence, which will take place on 5 June 2025, at NATO Headquarters, in Brussels.

On Monday (2 June 2025), NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) launched ten new challenges aimed at finding the next generation of dual-use deep technologies to help better protect the Alliance’s one billion citizens. Innovators will be able to submit proposals to DIANA’s challenges until 12:00 UTC on Friday 11 July 2025. Selected innovators will join Phase 1 of DIANA’s programme, participating in a six-month accelerator programme starting in January 2026 – becoming part of DIANA’s 2026 cohort of innovators.

On Monday, 2 June 2025, the NATO Secretary General, Mr Mark Rutte, will visit Vilnius, Lithuania. He will participate in the Vilnius Summit with B9 and Nordic countries, hosted by the President of Lithuania, Mr Gitanas Nausėda.
